Peter Walker is the head coach for the Laser National Youth Sqaud, which is, in his own words, "a group of 12 dedicated and committed 16-18 year olds who really dream about Olympic success." He is also an Olympic Development Squad coach.

When nominating Peter for the Performance Development Coach of the Year Award, the Royal Yachting Association had this to say about him and his coaching:

"Over the past year Peter has made a significant impact on one of our future Olympic contenders. His results are the best we have ever achieved with a Podium Potential level sailor and signal a continued golden future for the Laser Pathway, following in the footsteps of Laser Olympic Gold Medallists Sir Ben Ainslie (2000) and Paul Goodison (2008). The Gold medals in the under 21 World and European Championships and Europa Cup speak for themselves (the only other sailor to achieve this level of success at this stage in their career was Sir Ben Ainslie!). However the 11th place at the Senior World Championships is a major achievement, not least because the Laser is by far the most difficult and challenging Olympic class, so for an under 21 year old to finish 11th (1 point off the top 10 medal race) is an exceptional performance. To give an indication of how tough this class is, Peter’s sailor was just 1 place behind the 2012 Olympic Silver medallist and 6 places behind 5 times Olympic Medallist and 9 times World Champion Robert Scheidt.

These results are truly a once in a generation performance."
