MARTIN BOATMAN

Britain’s sailors have ruled the waves for centuries, but in small boat racing we’ve traditionally converted talent into medals much better in the male sailing classes. Martin has broken the mould with results we haven’t seen, at this stage of an athlete’s career, since double gold medallist Sarah Ayton. The parallels to that era paint a very promising picture. Sarah was part of a very successful cohort of female singlehanded sailors, who on any given day were all fighting for the top spot internationally. Martin has taken a younger cohort to the same level and we now have four female sailors starting to dominate the world stage.
